Ugly Stick Elite Spinning Rod 7’ Medium Light
A cheap entry level rod that works well in the surd. An improved model from Shakespeare, the Elite series is made with 35% more graphite. The cork handle is comfortable and durable against sand and saltwater. The reel seat is smooth when attaching and detaching your reel. We where not to impressed with the rod guides, we noticed after a few months of using the rod the guides began to wear down. Grooves started forming from the line passing through the guides and eventually forming an edge that could cut the line. Overall the Ugly Stick Elite is a good beginner rod that can handle a variety of different fish. If you get into the sport of surf fishing we recommend moving up in class to a more efficient long-term rod.
Abu Garcia Vengeance Spinning Rod 7’ Medium
One of the most economical surf fishing rods that are economical but efficient. This rod is made of graphite and has a good backbone but also sensitive for those subtile bites. The Vengeance has a similar reel seat as the Abu Garcia Verritas 2.0, tight to the rod for added sensitivity transfer. Stainless steel guides with titanium oxide inserts aid the distance of your cast and hold up well to heavier pound line and braid. A good rod for targeting Surf Perch and Corbina.
Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 Spinning Rod 6’10” Medium Light
A lightweight well-balanced surf fishing rod at an entry level price. The core is Abu Garcias Spiral Carbon Construction; this gives the rod a good flex but a strong backbone for hook sets and finesse fishing. The guides are made of titanium alloy with zirconium inserts to keep your line from fraying. The reel seat is nice and tight to the rod for increased sensitivity. The Veritas 2.0 is an all around good surf rod.
